Understanding the 40-Week Journey

Pregnancy is a uniquely phased journey divided into three trimesters, each with its own physical developments and preparations.

First Trimester

Weeks 1–12. The most critical period for development. By the end of this phase, all of the baby's body systems have started to form.

Second Trimester

Weeks 13–26. Often the "golden period." Nausea usually fades, energy returns, and the baby's features and gender become clearly visible.

Third Trimester

Weeks 27–40. The final home stretch where the baby grows rapidly in size and weight, preparing for its grand debut into the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about due dates and gestational tracking.

How accurate is the estimated due date (EDD)?
Strictly speaking, only about 4-5% of babies are born on their exact due date. The EDD is a guideline representing the 40-week mark, but most babies arrive within a week on either side of it.
Why is it calculated from the last period?
Because the exact date of conception is often difficult to determine, medical professionals use the first day of your last period as a concrete biological anchor point for tracking.
Is pregnancy actually 10 months?
Standard pregnancy is 40 weeks, which is roughly 9 calendar months or 10 lunar months. We track your progress in weeks to align with medical growth benchmarks.
